Soaping 101 - how to swap oils in a recipe

So you want to make soap but are missing an ingredient for the nice recipe you found online?

No problem! We're here to help.

Oil swapping is really easy, just pick a substituting oil from the list and run your recipe through a lye calculator like the ones found in either of the following links: SoapCalc, The Sage Calculator, or The Soap Calculator. (Don't know how to use them? Drop us a note!)

After you have the updated lye amount to use, just follow the steps in the recipe you have using your calculator results. It's that easy!
